Round five of the European FIA Drag race championship at Tierp Arena in Sweden became an epic round of Top Fuel racing and all other classes due to a world class track. During the event we did witness six 3 seconds run in the top fuel class alone, with former RFM racer, Thomas Nataas, now racing for the danish Andersen brothers setting the new European record in ET at 3.965 and the speed record at 494.05 km/h / 306.99 mph. RF Motorsport congratulates Thomas and the Andersen's in this massive achivement!
Our own Jari Halinen became our best card this weekend, setting a new personal best with 4.040. Jari made it into elimination 2 but due to technical failure he was forced to be pushed off from the start line. Jari is now number 5 in the championship, with one round left.
Antti Horto also ran good at Tierp with 4.133 as his best time. Antti lost in elimination 1, to fellow RFM mate Jari. Antti is now number 3 in the championship.
Our UK driver Chris Andrews strugled to qualifiy this weekend but entered the qual list in the last qual, and by this pushing out another RFM driver, Duncan Micallef who only was testing this weekend. Chris made a 4.153 run in elimination 1 but lost to Stig Neergaard. Chris did climb the championship ladder and is now currently number 7.
Tierp Arena was so fast this weekend and is now crowned as the new European drag race venue, with the world speed record in Top Methanol Funny car by Jonnie Lindeberg, as the biggest achivements. We in RF Motorsport did struggle a bit sadly with a lot of small and unfortunate failures, leaving our excelent crew mechanic Gary Page's broken arm as a picture of how hard it sometimes can be.
The trucks are now on its way back to England. Team owner Rune Fjeld will there start doing a lot of work, getting everything ready for the final at Santa Pod in two weeks. This season has been hard on our race cars and we have a lot of small things to fix, but with one of Europe's most experinced fuel racer running the show we will come back superstrong at the finals..
